We believe young lives benefit from touching the earth and eating out of pottery(clay earth) from a young age. Plastic isn’t sustainable product to the earth, too light, and you don’t get to have the conversation of “Fragility,” with your children as you would with pottery. From a young age, they get to practice taking care of things that are important in sustaining their lives. I spent 4 years with my grandchildren during their toddler years. It is designed, so it nestles nicely into their hand and palm. When we set out to make them, they start out as a 11 oz weight which is how much an adult human heart weighs. When it is fired and completed, it shrinks to 8 oz, an average child’s heart weight. We pour our heart into this when making them.
Toddler Pottery is made specifically for the young children fitting their hands and dexterity. The exterior of the pottery is purposely non-glazed so there is good secure grip to the touch. We also like to think that it is good to feel different textures from a young age. It also has the right weight (approximately 8 oz each) compared to the light weight plastic. It just feels so much more natural. The cup holds approximately 4~5 oz fluids.
